Pamela Chan

Mrs. Chan is the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Consumer Council. She was immediate President of Consumers International (CI) from 1997 - 2000. CI was established in 1960. It is an international body of 270 consumer organizations in 121 countries.

Apart from devoting to consumer empowerment work, Mrs. Chan is actively engaged in community and public services. She serves on a number of committees and working parties to reform civil rules and procedures of the High Court as well as, legal education; to monitor the estate and travel agents industries and tender advice on education and consumer-interests related initiatives. Mrs. Chan is also Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Professional Legal Education of the University of Hong Kong and Member of PCLL Academic Board of City University of Hong Kong

Mrs. Chan is currently Vice Chairman of the Admissions, Budgets and Allocations Committee of the Community Chest. Mrs. Chan tenders advice to consumer associations, provincial governments and Law Reform Commissions in Mainland China (there are 4,000 consumer associations in the country). She was consulted by some governments, such as Laos, Bangladesh and South Africa, on the drafting of Consumer Laws and consumer policy issues.

In view of her contributions to the community, she was appointed unofficial Justice of Peace in 1991 and in 1998, she was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star.
