The Second Asian Symposium of Direct Selling was held in Hong Kong on November 12-13, 2007 at the Excelsior Hotel. Jointly organised by the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA) and the Direct Selling Association of Hong Kong (HKDSA), the Symposium brought together more than 180 delegates from 20 countries and territories, with 36 organisations and industry stakeholders in Hong Kong represented.
Angela Keung, President of the Direct Selling Association of Hong Kong, said the Symposium provided a valuable platform for all parties to share their insights on the industry, its development and key areas such as reputation management and corporate social responsibility.
"It was also important in bringing together all the key constituencies of the direct selling industry, including government officials, consumer organisations, academics and direct selling company executives, enabling us to share best practices and to understand regulatory differences and the regulations that are best for both the industry and consumer," said Mrs Keung.
Truman Hunt, Chairman of the WFDSA, said there is a need to promote a healthy regulatory environment by collectively working in the interest of consumers and ensuring that the industry's goals are consistent with those of regulators. He also detailed how the WFDSA has partnered with more than 40 local DSAs to conduct educational seminars to strengthen membership. "These educational seminars have empowered our local DSAs and armed them with information on such topics as regulatory affairs, consumer protection and administration," said Mr Hunt. |
